The Big Apple

13 september 2008 - New York, New York, Verenigde Staten

I am there, the biggest city of the United States, and my final stop of my trip!

It feels mixed, one way I am very into seeing everyone again and the comfort of feeling at home. But I know that I am going to miss this country and it's people sooo much!! But I actually already decided that I want to come back! Hopefully next summer, but I will be back!

Right now very much enjoying my last days, with my friends Sarah & Daphne ofcourse. We do mostly...shopping hahaha! On the evening that I arrived it took a long while unfortunally to get to the hostel with the shuttle bus, and my friends where to tyred to go out. I was hungry and luckly they where up for that, we went to a place here in the upper westside with loud music, eat and had a few mojitos. Then it was time for bed. The second day, thursday we started with visiting ground zero. It wasn't really the ceremony I aspected, it was very very busy, a lot of police and streets that where closed. Ground zero just looked like one big place of construction work. After walking in the financial district and shopping for a while we took the ferry to staten island which gave us a beautifull view at the statue of liberty! From SI we took a bus to brooklyn. There we had some lunch and walked and shopped as well. At night we took the subay to the village where we went to a comedy club with some dinner. I was tired, so it was nice to relax with some food and laugh! Then back to the hostel. We went to bed around 12.30 and we try to get up around 8 or 8.30 everyday.

Friday we started at Times Square, it was cool to see! Al those huge screens and people and taxi's and loudness everywhere. We had a nice close encounter with the naked cowboy haha. Then we moved on to lower Broadway and did more shopping hahaha. Me, Sarah and Daphne all bought a lot of good stuff. At the end of the day it started to rain but it was also still hot weather. We went to look for a restaurant out of one of our touristic books, but it took forever to find it, actually we didn't even found it at all, it just didn't exist. So we went to the next best thing, but the proportions of the food where a bit small for the price that we payed. Ah well, back to the hostel for a little nap, but we ended up on the internet and then it was already time to go to the club!

Aaah what else did we do? Sunday we went to the empire state building. I thought it was a little bit too expensive, but I really wanted to see the view over NY! The sky was a bit too bright so we couldn't see really far, but we saw all of manhattan, new jersy, staten island and brooklyn. What a huge city it is!! Afterwarts we went to the times square church, it looked like a theater from the inside and there was live music and people song! Almost like sister act, it was fun to see something like that in real life. Then we had a hurried lunch because it was already time for Sarah to leave us, back to Amsterdam!! The goodbye was not really hard because I will see her in a couple of days when I get back too. Daphne and me wanted to go to Harlem because when I took a bus to the airport in june, I drove trough a nice part. But we didn't really knew where that was and when we came out of the subway the neighbourhood didn't really look that good, so after a couple of blocs we went back and went to SoHo.

Hi sweetie, it must have been great to see Sarah and Daphne, I can imagine. Last time I was in N.Y. Soho was just becoming a kind of hip place to work and live for artists and so on. Is that still so?
    Anyway have fun!
Looking forward to see you and exchange a VERY BIG HUG!
