About Camp Life

Now let me all tell you a little bit about Camp Westwind.
Camp Westwind is situated in Neotsu, near Lincoln City at the Oregon cost, about a 2hr drive south east from Orgeon's biggest city Portland. WW is founded by an organisation called YWCA that empowers women and eliminates racism. They are all about teaching diversity. WW operates in the changing buisness wich means they want to help kids change in to good, happy, social and responsible people. This goal and the methods they use, are very simmilar to the ones that I've learned during my studies of social work. WW excists from about 1938 and many people who work there today have been campers all their life.
The surroundings are really beautiful, it seems like your on an island because on one side you have the pacific ocean and on one side the salmon river, but the rest is attached to land. It's not really easy to get in and out of camp, there is only one road, where only one car at a time can drive (they can't pass, the road is too narrow) and if you walk down that road it will take about 30 or 40 minutes. Also it is not allowed to walk there at dawn, dusk or in the dark because of the animals.The most of the land is covered with a rainforest and hills. The hills are very steep wich gives you a magnificent view that's different from every place. These areas are perfect for a hike or an overnight.Also we have dunes and beach.
At main camp side we have a lodge which covers the dining hall, the program area, the kitchen, the store, the staff lounge and the batcave, in the batcave we have all of our costumes for a dress over! 
Then we have the Learning Center, which we call the LC, where you can learn about nature. At the other side of the LC we have a sleeping area where a few staff members are situated.
Around camp we have 5 different places for campers which are similar to the 5 units that we have.There is Sheerwood, where the youngest kids live, then we have Highlands and Alpine. The fourth group are the Teens and the last group is Ranch. Both the teens and ranch live in tents and the other units are cabins. The units are in walking distance from each other. Every unit has 3 or more cabins to sleep in. Every cabin has it's own counselor and every unit has its Unit Coordinator, so a couple of counsellors share the same UC. And every UC has a Unit Assistant and 2 program staff that they can use during the night activities. So I am the counselor of Ranch Camp, I have 3 counsellors which are all girls, and from the program staff I have the riding director and a life guard.
The program staff have their own supervisor as well as the UC's, the lifeguards  and the nurse. The Supervisors are under direct supervising of the camp director.
A camp session lasts for 6 days. The kids arrive at the other side of the river and there crossed in on a small boat, an exciting start! On the first night they have a campfire.During the week they have 2 interest groups that lasts for 2 days. An interest group can be about literally ANYTHING! Like last year there was an IG about farting....I am going to lead an IG about healty lifestyles, we're going to make smoothies and a salad on the first day, and do some yoga, pilates and a quiet walk on the beach the 2nd day.At night 4 there is an overnight. Each unit goes to a different spot to spend the night under the stars! They also make food and breakfast there and have a value session. A VS is to balance all the fun games and activities and gives an uppertunity to let the kids share their toughts and feelings. This can be done in a circle around a campfire or with different activities. Besides de VS during the overnight it can be also used as a tool when there are difficulties within the cabin.At night 4 there is an all camp, an theme based activity in which all of the campers are involved.I will be one of the initiators of the first all camp and it will be a counsellor hunt! :D All counsellors have to hide at campside and if a group of kids find them, they have to anwser a question and if they do correctly they get a signature.
In total we have 6 sessions of 6 days. In between we get a full day of and the sessions don't begin that early and don't end that late, so we'll have like a day and a half of. During the days when camp is running we have a 2 hour break.
